The Story Behind Heirloom & Soul

Some things are meant to last.

I'm Sophia. Designer, historian at heart, and founder of Heirloom & Soul Interiors. My belief in the power of a beautiful, storied home began in my Oma's sitting room.

Lace drapery layered beneath silky green curtains. A yellow antique sofa. Sconces casting warm light over gold framed artwork. A piano the color of warm wood. A china cabinet holding decades of memory.

That room ingrained itself quietly into my subconscious, shaping everything I would come to believe about how beautifully aged items shape our lives.

Years later, studying in Florence, I found that feeling again in the streets, the architecture, the furniture, the art. A city that had spent centuries refusing to let beauty die. Restoration after restoration, generation after generation. Proof that when something is made with intention and cared for with devotion, it thrives through generations.

That philosophy followed me home.

Back in Austin, I found myself working inside the Texas Capitol, a building built in 1888 filled with fine art, antique furniture, and restored grandeur. To work inside history every day was to understand something most modern spaces have forgotten: that good craftsmanship, honest materiality, and genuine care can keep beauty alive across centuries.

When I finally moved into a home of my own, I climbed into my parents' attic and brought Oma's pieces down. The gold framed mirror. The antique rocking chair. The ornate room divider. Items that had waited patiently for years for me to be ready to receive them.

Bringing them into my space felt surreal. Storied. Each piece carried a craftsmanship and an age that new items could not replicate. Together they created something that stopped people at the door — "I know you just moved in," they would say, "but it feels like you've lived here for years."

That is the power of an heirloom. That is the soul of a home.

At Heirloom & Soul Interiors, I bring this philosophy into every space I touch. I believe every item should have a story or be deeply loved. I believe decisions should be made with intention. I believe your home should feel like an extension of who you are and who you are growing into.

In a world that moves fast and produces faster, I believe we are all quietly craving something slower, deeper, and more grounded. That grounding will not come from chasing the next best thing. It will come from honoring where we have been and allowing that history to become the roots of where we are growing.

This is the work. This is why I do it.

And this is what I will bring to your home.
